BlackBerry Thunder live shot, damn we’re good!

You all know the Thunder right? Well, looky looky who got a cookie. Yeah peoples, live shot of the BlackBerry Thunder right here. By just looking at the photo, we can see that almost every button on a traditional BlackBerry like the convenience keys are still there. Like we reported, there are only four physical buttons on the front and a large touch-screen. It is also coming to Verizon. Take a look at a larger shot after the jump and stay tuned for more information on it soon. Wow, we were almost spot on with our mock-up

This is stupid. The whole point of a BlackBerry as an email/messaging device is the bloody keyboard! This is why users who’s primary concern is email stick with them instead of getting an iPhone. It’s called ease of use. Unless their typing software is radically more advanced than what the iPhone currently offers this thing is gonna bomb hardcore! Question: Why didn’t they just include a slide out keyboard? Why!?!

wow that was really close the only real difference was the logos on the top and bottom not being above or below, i agree with rich, how is this going to fly with people, this would be the first BB w/o a physical keyboard correct?

The iPhone keyboard is amazing for email/text, even though it’s only virtual. I can type about 10x faster on it than I can on my BB Curve.

I think there are many users who like a touchscreen but love the ease and simplicity of Blackberry software over often annoying WinMO OS. The screen looks generously sized and it should have an awesome build quality, like every other Blackberry. I am really excited for this phone.

It’s called evolution there buddy. Perhaps you remember not too long ago when RIM stated they wouldn’t be having cameras and media capabilities on their phones. And if they thought like you they wouldn’t be where they are today.

So with one straight up design and no further innovation you get the Razr or the Treo. No doubt the core functions of the BlackBerry is email and messaging, but to completely ignore other trends, features, and key elements that make other companies successful, you’re asking asking for the height of your business to rest on the success of one phone. Stupid.

So while this phone may not appeal to a specific crowd, whose to say how many people it’ll grab that were on the fence before for whatever reason. Network, brand of phone, styling, 3G capabilities you name it.

RIM has had a pretty good eye for the “right” thing to do in the last year and half, and I believe this phone will help continue that trend. Regardless of what you think.

I use a HTC Touch with a better than the built-in virtual keyboard from cootek.com. I’m way faster than I was with the slide-out keyboard I had on the HTC Apache 6700. When I want to travel light, i.e., sans laptop for real work, I carry a Bluetooth foldable keyboard from Freedom Universal. Cheap on fleaBay and it fits in a coat pocket. They also work with several Berries. Eat your heart out iPhone users. You will have to carry a friggin laptop everywhere.

have you ever heard of expanding your product line? BB already has a stranglehold over the enterprise market with their qwerty board, and now they come out with this device and all of the people who had switched to an iphone for the ts will now come back to bb and they will continue their dominance of the smartphone market share.

    any news of release?

How is it being on VZW bad, except if you don’t have them? They were rated #1 in customer support, have outstanding coverage, and if you have a BB, then they don’t modify it! I have a VZW Pearl, and the only thing they changed was actually an addition to the theme, which isn’t bad!

Anyone complaining about them crippling their devices needs to think a little harder.. Why would the cripple a BB?

I have had horrible luck with VZW. Their customer service is sub par, data isnt all that fast in my opinion and I’ve had much better luck with ATT.

Any idea about release dates. I am all ready to dump my 3 week old VZW Curve for the next soon to be outdated device. And for all you VZW haters out there…first alltell to make us number 1 again and now this iphone killa. At least we won’t have to shell out $500 for an edge speed device only to have to spend another $500 to get high speed.

BB picked VZW for this device to directly compete against iphone (that vzw passed on,cause they were not desperate enough to giv e the farm to Apple) this deal with Vodaphone involved is huge for all parties.

BG thanks for the Sunday heat break

I have a Curve and love the keyboard, but I’ve always wanted to make the iPhone or something like this my primary device for a while, so I would be forced to use a virtual keyboard.

I can see it not being so bad, and something I’d have to get used to. Anyone who has switched devices knows there’s a learning curve for the keyboard. I went from a BB 7520 to an 8800 to a Curve, and each time there was a learning period where I had to re-train my fingers on the key positions.

The keyboard probably isn’t bad and don’t nail them for being a bit progressive.

I think VZW is bad for the following reasons:
    1. I hate their corporate red and black colors and their sales people, especially the ones in the mall kiosks always aggravate me.
    2. The UI on most of their phones suck.
    3. They are expensive
    4. They are not #1 at customer service, I think T-Mobile claims that
    5. I detest their advertising, which seems to get everywhere (they probably think that’s a good thing)
    6. Most of their phones don’t work abroad
    7. They do NOT have good coverage where I live, neight does AT&T. The best are Sprint and T-Mobile.
    8. Their handset selection is very limited. Virtually their only vendors are LG and Samsung.
Verizon is just not my kind of carrier, YMMV.

Uhohs… looks like the battle for who gets the money in my “next phone piggy-bank” just got a little more complicated.

By “also coming to Verizon” do you infer that it will be coming to other carriers as well? Or that it is new information and only (at least first) coming to Verizon?

I have a Voyager now and planned on getting an Android Phone but I doubt Verizon will carry them (at least at first). Sooooo… I think this is the next phone I “need”. http://blackberrythunder.net

I agree with you on #2, #3, #5(I want to punch the “can you hear me now” guy right in the face) and #8. You also forgot they disable features (GPS) in a pathetic attempt to extract even more money from their customers.
